CASPER, Wyo — Friends and co-stars of ‘Street Outlaws’ Texas Team leader James “Birdman” Finney reported on social media Saturday, July 18 that the hot rod racer’s injuries included a broken hand, several cracked ribs, and extreme soreness after a serious accident while filming the show west of Casper overnight.

“My hero, our Team Texas leader and best friend James Birdman Finney could have lost his life last night and we are so thankful to our Heavenly Father above that he didn’t need Jaime just yet,” said Mike Murillo on Facebook. K2 News reported Saturday that Finney was in stable condition.

“This wreck brought me to my knees on the starting line with fear of the worst,” Murillo added.

Murillo posted an update Saturday around 2:30 pm that said Finney had a “shattered” hand and 3 broken ribs. The update said that doctors initially thought he had broken 3 vertebrae, but were in fact bruised.

The update reported that Finney was having trouble breathing and that doctors were concerned about a spot on his heart and were doing further evaluations. It also said that Finney never lost consciousness during the accident and reportedly asked Murillo if he had won the race.

2 separate “horrible accidents,” occurred while filming overnight. The other involved Stan Allen of Team Megatron according to a social media post by racer Mario Andrade.

Allen said on social media Saturday he walked away “with a headache” from a crash that occurred after Birdman’s. “I am fine,” Allen said in a post. “The car is not.” He said he would continue racing with an older vehicle next Wednesday.

He thanked his fans for the outpouring of prayers and thanked his safety team, including RKRacecraft. “I am truly blessed,” he said.
